Baker Mayfield Unlikely For First-Team Reps
6 years agoCleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has played well during the preseason, but head coach Hue Jackson doesn't appear closer to giving the rookie first-team reps in a game before the preseason ends. "No. No. No, no, no," the coach said Monday. "Everybody is asking me that a ton of times. Why? I will tell you the reason why: We are learning a new system, and I think (QB Tyrod Taylor) needs every rep he can get with the ones. I think Baker is doing outstanding with the twos. If something happens and we need to put him there, we will. Right now, that has not happened." It appears Taylor is cemented as the No. 1 signal caller in the Dawg Pound, so Mayfield is only worth rostering in long-term keeper formats at this point. Taylor is a solid QB2 given the weapons around him.
