Denzel Ward Hurt As Browns Pitch Shutout
6 years agoCleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward Jr. suffered a back injury on the first defensive series in Thursday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, walking very carefully to the locker room with assistance from the medical staff. He is scheduled for an MRI on Friday. That was about the only thing that went wrong for the Cleveland defense, as defensive end Myles Garrett had two sacks, including one on Eagles QB Nick Foles which resulted in a safety. Linebacker Genard Avery also had a strip-sack on Foles, which set up the team's lone offensive score, a field goal. FS Briean Boddy-Calhoun started for the injured Damarious Randall (knee), and also came up with a pick. In three preseason games the Browns starting D has allowed just one field goal. Not many are going to draft a DST from a team which was 0-16 last year, but they're quickly rocketing up the rankings. For now, Cleveland's DST is more of a low-end No. 2 fantasy unit, but they might be popular as a streaming option once bye weeks start.
