6 years agoDetroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez provided some excitement for the scuffling Tiger offense on Thursday, clubbing two homers to lead the team to victory. The veteran DH, who will retire at season's end, took J. A. Happ deep in the fifth inning for a two-run blast, then did the same thing to Dellin Betances in the ninth inning to force a tie ball game. That tie was broken in the next at-bat, when Niko Goodrum also took Betances deep. Martinez has just eight homers on the year, so it was a bit of an unexpected power outburst for him. He'll look to keep it rolling from here to put a productive ending on what has been an ultimately productive career.--Tyler Germain - RotoBaller
