6 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Taylor Heinicke appears to have won the primary backup job behind starter Cam Newton. There were rumors earlier in the preseason that the team might be interested in reuniting offensive coordinator Norv Turner and former Minnesota Vikings, now current New Orleans Saints, QB Teddy Bridgewater. However, Heinicke, who also worked under Turner with the Vikings, has taken a big step forward during training camp and the preseason. Heinicke finished the preseason complete 66.7 percent of his pass attempts (24-of-36) for 323 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while also running for a score.--Daniel Dobish
