ANALYSIS: Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jake Junis may only be 8-12 with a 4.28 ERA this season (and a 4.65 FIP), but he could make the difference in a fantasy championship this week. Since the All-Star break, Junis is only 3-2, but is striking out nearly a batter per inning (58 in 60 1/3) and has a 2.83 ERA. He has a 3.21 FIP, but his 1.79 walk rate and 47.6% GB rate show how he is limiting damage.
After throwing eight innings against the White Sox on September 10, Junis has thrown 24 innings in his last three starts and, with five strikeouts, has struck out at least five batters in each of his last eight starts (nine of 10 since the All-Star break). Even more impressively, Junis has not walked a batter since August 17 (four starts), combating the fact that he has allowed at least six hits in three of his last four starts.
Junis will face the Twins on Sunday in Kansas City, potentially putting your team over the top into the next round of the playoffs. With a matchup in Detroit on September 22nd, Junis is a must-add in all formats as a high impact player in all formats.
