6 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Joey Lucchesi finished his rookie campaign with six innings of two-run ball against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He allowed four hits, no walks and fanned eight, ending the year with a 4.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 10.0 K/9 over 26 starts (130 innings pitched). While Lucchesi struggled in the homestretch, he was the Friars best starter this year. The 25-year-old will look to improve his consistency and ability to go deeper into games over the offseason and will enter 2019 as likely the only Padres pitcher with a lock for the starting rotation. Lucchesi possessed swing-and-miss stuff across his entire professional resume so the strikeouts seem sustainable. He’ll be a worthy backend starting option in all mixed leagues next season.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
