ANALYSIS: New York Jets running back Bilal Powell is only averaging 4.2 yards per carry this season, but his impact as a receiving back cannot be ignored. Catching four passes on Sunday and five against the Dolphins in Week 2, Powell has shown that he has a role to play in the Jets backfield in the passing game. Also, in a Week 3 matchup against the Browns where he was held out of the passing game, he had 14 carries for 73 yards.
While Powell did not have an impact in the passing game last season, he did have 388 receiving yards in both 2015 and 2016 and caught 23 of his 33 targets last season. His rushing impact has been limited this season, but fantasy owners do need to remember that he had 772 rushing yards last season and averaged 5.5 yards per carry in 2015.
A matchup against the Broncos is also ideal for Powell, as the Broncos are 20th against fantasy RB this season and have allowed at least one touchdown in each of the last three games. They have also allowed 22 receptions on 29 targets to running backs this season, showing that a receiving back like Powell can be an impact player. Considering that the Broncos have issues with receiving backs, Powell is a decent RB2 for Week 5 in deeper leagues.
