ANALYSIS: Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones only has 11 carries in his NFL career, but the talented rookie is still a player to watch. He has dressed twice this season, once before the bye in a blowout loss to the Bears and then again on Sunday against the Falcons, and had three catches for 16 yards against Atlanta. The fact that Peyton Barber had a good game against the Falcons, running for 82 yards, should also lead some to be bullish on Jones, but there are reasons to believe in the 21-year-old.
The Buccaneers selected Jones with the 38th pick of this year's draft, showing that they see the USC product as their RB of the future, and he did have 1550 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns for the Trojans last season. It is not encouraging that Jones only had four touches on Sunday after tallying 11 before the bye, but the Buccaneers may have just been playing the hot hand with Barber. While it appears that Barber will continue to be first on the depth chart, it looks like Jones' skill set might still get him targets in the passing game.
The Browns, who the Buccaneers will face this weekend, are 25th against RB, giving Jones an opportunity to truly break out. While Barber did fare well against the Falcons on Sunday, remember that he only had 79 rushing yards in the previous three games. With the potential to get touches against a porous defense against RB, Jones should be added in 12-team leagues.
