Mike Muscala (PF/C, PHI) - Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add In 14-Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 8% of leagues

ANALYSIS: After the Jimmy Butler trade, the 76ers have some holes to fill, especially with the departure of Dario Saric opening up minutes at the four and Amir Johnson losing minutes and opening up time at the five as well. Enter Mike Muscala, recently returned from a broken nose that held him out for three games.

The former Atlanta Hawk was acquired this offseason as a weird arm of the trade that temporarily sent Carmelo Anthony to Atlanta and saw Dennis Schroder head to Oklahoma City. And while Schroder has had the most impact of the players involved in that deal, Muscala has been a key part of Philadelphia's bench unit all season. He does has two qualities that NBA teams want in a stretch four -- the size to play the power forward position and the shooting ability to make shots on the perimeter.

Muscala is currently hitting 50 percent of his corner threes, and 35.4 percent of his total threes. Coming into Saturday night's meeting with the Hornets, he was shooting 36.8 percent from deep over the three games since he returned to the lineup. He's also averaging 6.3 attempts from deep over that time, and he should have the green light to keep firing them away on a team that needs to surround some of its non-shooters with shooters to increase the team's efficiency.

Meanwhile, Muscala is grabbing 5.7 boards per game in that three game sample, and while those aren't great numbers from a big, you can get away with playing him if you're building a lineup around shooting. Muscala is worth an add right now for owners in deeper leagues who need more production from behind the arc and feel better about where they're at in some of their other categories. If Muscala can get his field goal percentage back up closer to where it's been in the past (high 40s and low 50s as opposed to the 39.1 percent he's shooting now) and he remains in the upper 80s from the free throw line, he'll give you plenty of reasons to have him in your lineups.
