BALLER MOVE: Add in 14-Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 19% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: At the tight end position, finding consistent production can be really, really hard, so you're often forced into making more changes on a week-to-week basis than you're likely comfortable with.
Well, Jonnu Smith looks like he's started to reached the stage where fantasy owners should feel pretty comfortable with him in their lineups.
Smith finished Week 12's meeting with the Texans with two catches for 63 yards a touchdown, and he's found the end zone in three of the last four games. In the other, not-touchdown game, Smith grabbed six passes for 44 yards. Four weeks of good production suggests that fantasy owners should give Smith a look.
Of course, there are warning signs here, which is why the recommendation is to add him in 14-team leagues. Aside from the six-catch game, Smith has been a fairly low target share, with no other game featuring more than three targets. He's touchdown dependent and has a rather difficult matchup against the Jets in Week 13.
Still, he's actually looked productive lately, and at a position where injuries continue to pile up and take away strong options, a guy who stands a good chance of scoring on a weekly basis is worth something. If you've recently lost a tight end to injury and want to grab someone who can give you some fantasy depth, there are a lot of options worse than Smith. He's no Delanie Walker, but he's still someone who can bring you positive contributions, albeit with some low-usage risk factored in.
