6 years agoThe Oakland Athletics signed infielder Cliff Pennington to a minor-league deal on Friday. The former first-round pick by the A's in 2005 spent five years with the organization before bouncing around with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Cincinnati Reds. He appeared in just 16 games last season with the Reds, hitting a paltry .138 (4-for-29) with no extra-base hits or RBI and just one run scored while striking out 13 times. He is best known for his defense, as he is a career .242 hitting across 971 MLB games. No fantasy value here.--Daniel Dobish
