Yandy Diaz Smacks Three-Run Homer
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz went 2-for-2 with a three-run home run, four RBI and played impressive defense in Wednesday's spring training game against the Detroit Tigers. Diaz is quietly putting together a nice spring, hitting .290/.389/.516 with two home runs in 31 at-bats. His versatility will help him push for playing time, as he has the ability to play first, second, third and the corner outfield positions. His average exit velocity was 92.1 mph in 2018, good for 24th in the majors. A dangerously high ground-ball rate of 53.5 percent is his biggest obstacle going forward. Currently going undrafted in standard mixed leagues, he could make a case as a sleeper in deeper leagues.
