Dustin Pedroia Will Begin Season in Extended Spring Training
6 years agoBoston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (knee) will not be with the team on Opening Day, announced manager Alex Cora on Monday. However, the skipper also noted that there have been no setbacks with the 35-year-old but he just needs some more reps once major league camp breaks to build back up to game strength. Pedroia played five innings in a Grapefruit League game on Saturday and went hitless in three at-bats. While the vet gets back into game speed, expect Brock Holt and Eduardo Nunez to split time at second once the season begins. Even when Pedroia returns, he'll likely see considerable amounts of rest making him a very low-upside option in any format.
