Blake Swihart Showing Up In Spring Training
6 years agoBoston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart has appeared in 10 games this spring and has been taking advantage of his chance to win the starting job in Beantown. A slash line of .360/.385/.480 with five RBI over 25 at-bats is far-and-away the best at the position, whereas Christian Vazquez and Sandy Leon are known more for their defensive abilities. At 26 years old, Swihart has yet to hold a full-time starting job but his hot bat is going to make it difficult for the Sox to decide on a primary backstop. If they go with Swihart, he'll likely be batting at the bottom half of a strong lineup, making fantasy-relevant opportunities hard to come by. The indecision here makes him hard to trust, even if you're punting the catcher position come draft day.
