Brandon Lowe and Rays Agree To Contract Extension
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays utilityman Brandon Lowe agreed to a six-year, $24 million contract extension with the club on Tuesday. He was ranked as the 93rd-best prospect by Baseball America after the 2018 season, in which he slashed .233/.324/.450 with six home runs (148 at-bats). The contract extension comes in the midst of an outstanding spring training. Lowe is hitting .356/.408/.692 with two home runs and seven doubles in 39 spring training at-bats. Even if he is with the Major League team when the season begins, it's unlikely that he'll see everyday playing time for the Rays because of a clogged lineup. However, the Rays investment in him after just 43 Major League games may indicate bigger plans in the near future.
