6 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Mallex Smith has been sidelined all of spring training with an elbow issue. The club plans for Smith to lead off in Monday night’s exhibition against the San Diego Padres, but they only plan on playing him for three at-bats. Smith will be out there in Tuesday’s contest as well, so these two days will be a true test for his availability on Opening Day. It’s a situation to monitor closely to see what the M’s decide to do with their speedster, but if an IL stint were required, he’d likely return when first eligible. Smith remains one of the elite stolen base options in fantasy and could put up big run numbers if he’s kept at the top of the order.--Riley Mrack - RotoBaller
