6 years agoDetroit Red Wings center Andreas Athanasiou picked up a breakaway goal in the second period of a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Monday night. The 24-year-old now has five goals and two assists over his past five games. Athanasiou has been unleashed by head coach Jeff Blashill with the Red Wings clearly out of the playoff picture. He has set career highs across the board with 29 goals, 20 assists, and eight power-play points. Athanasiou will only continue to get better as the young Red Wings core continues to develop.
