Randal Grichuk Agrees To Five-Year, $52 Million Extension
6 years agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk has agreed to a five-year, $52 million extension with the team, reports Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. The extension will buy out three of the 27-year-old's free-agent years. This news falls on the same day the Blue Jays traded away veteran Kevin Pillar to San Francisco, ensuring that the Blue Jays are working towards a full rebuild. In 533 big league games with the Cardinals and Blue Jays, Grichuk carries a slash line of .247/.297/.490 and has hit 92 home runs, driven in 245 and scored 242 more. He now becomes one of the faces of the franchise after offseason departures of Troy Tulowitzki, Russell Martin and Kendrys Morales. This season over 19 plate appearances, Grichuk has just two hits, a double and home run and will continue to bat in the heart of Toronto's order as the team awaits prized prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
