Blake Swihart Clubs First Homer Of Season
6 years agoBoston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart finished with three hits in Wednesday night's win over the Athletics. The backstop hit his first home run of the season in the fifth inning. While it was just a solo shot, it got the eventual comeback by the Sox started en route to the 6-3 win in the ninth. While Swihart is the better hitter of a catching platoon with Christian Vazquez, the former only had eight home runs over 194 career games heading into Wednesday. Consistent playing time is a problem for the 27-year-old, so he's merely a deep AL-only option. Boston heads to Arizona over the weekend before returning to Fenway to face the Blue Jays and Orioles next week. Swihart should receive several starts and bat in the bottom half of a struggling Boston lineup.
