Chris Sale Continues Worrisome Start To Season
6 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale lasted just four innings while surrendering five earned runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking none in a losing effort to Toronto on Tuesday. Things started out great for the southpaw, retiring the first seven Blue Jays he faced, while the Sox jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. The 30-year-old proceeded to give up all five runs over the completion of the next two innings, chasing him from the game. According to Baseball Savant, Sale's four-seam fastball maxed out at 94.7 mph but averaged just 91.8 mph. However, both are an increase from his most recent start. Assuming everything stays on track, Sale is set to go next Monday on Patriots Day in Boston against the Orioles. The matchup will be prime for the Red Sox ace, but his sluggish start is certainly enough to make owners scratch their head moving forward.
