Hector Neris Earns Second Save
6 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Hector Neris earned his second save of the season, striking out two batters to preserve the Phillies 3-2 win. It wasn't easy for Neris, who came into the game with two runners on and one out. He allowed an inherited runner to score but was able to lock down the save after that. Neris had an abysmal first half last year and was sent to Triple-A midseason. He was called back up later in the season and finished strong, striking out 35 batters in his final 17 2/3 innings. It's nearly impossible to predict who manager Gabe Kapler will call on for a save moving forward, but with David Robertson on the injured list, Neris is as good a bet for saves as anyone. With a 30 percent career strikeout rate and eight percent walk rate, he should provide help in K's, ERA and WHIP even if he doesn't get every save. He should be added in most category-based formats.
