J.D. Martinez Snaps 11-Game Hitting Streak
6 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez went hitless in Game 1 of the day-night doubleheader with Detroit, snapping his 11-game hitting streak. Martinez did earn a base knock in Game 2, but he also struck out four times in eight at-bats during the two contests. The 31-year-old slugger is now batting .330 with just four home runs and 11 runs batted in. The numbers look solid on paper, but he has just one homer since April 4, while the rest of the lineup isn't giving him much help either. Boston needs either Martinez or Mookie Betts to step up and give the offense a jolt. They'll face Tyson Ross and Jordan Zimmermann the next two games, which presents a good opportunity for either star to get things going.
