Jalen Beeks Impresses
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays pitcher Jalen Beeks pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings in the first game of the doubleheader on Wednesday. Beeks followed opener Ryne Stanek, who dug the Rays into a three-run deficit in the first inning. Beeks only allowed one hit, two walks and struck out six on the day. He is used in a similar fashion to Yonny Chirinos, who has had a lot more attention this year because of the few true starts he had earlier in the season. Wednesday’s performance improves Beeks' season stats to a 2.45 ERA over 25 2/3 innings with 26 strikeouts. He may become more popular as he continues to pitch well and is a good option for wins and ratios. His next likely opponent is the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have hit lefties well this year (.299/.341/.516).
