Brent Honeywell Not Throwing Off Mound Yet
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Brent Honeywell (elbow) has progressed to playing catch after a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery in mid-April. He had the surgery in February of 2018 and was on track for a late-May return before experiencing elbow soreness. Upon being shut down weeks ago, it was anticipated that his timetable would only be pushed back a few weeks. There hasn’t been an update to that timetable from the Rays at this point. The young righty tossed 136 2/3 innings of 3.49-ERA ball between Double-A and Triple-A with 172 strikeouts in 2017. Once Honeywell is able to throw off a mound, the timetable should become clearer. He is a young arm to monitor and should have an immediate impact when he is called up to the big league club, which is expected at some time this year.
