6 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale struck out a career high 17 hitters in seven innings against the Rockies Tuesday. He is the first pitcher in history with 17 punchouts in seven innings of work or less. He allowed just three hits, including a two-run homer in the seventh inning; it was his only blemish on the day. He's now struck out double-digit batters in four of his last five starts, and 59 total in the same stretch. The Sox' ace was filthy and efficient, throwing 74 strikes in 108 pitches, with 24 inducing a swing. He wasn't able to earn the win, as the Boston bullpen blew a 3-2 lead late. He'll look to keep his dominance going on Sunday, when he faces the Astros in Houston.--Steve Janik - RotoBaller
