Coca-Cola 600: DFS NASCAR Lineup Sleepers and Avoids

Its been a long week off, but we're back to regulation racing this Sunday for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Taking a step back, Brad Keselowski bagged his second career victory in wild fashion at Kansas (arguably one of the best races of the year so far), and Kyle Larson won both the Monster Energy Open and All-Star Race. I was shook that Larson got both wins on All-Star week and it makes a huge statement to all the haters (he made money moves).

There have been so many changes to the cars this year gearing up for the Gen 7's in 2021 that it makes it tough to pinpoint a lot of factors. Practice will tell us a good bit at the end of the week, but for now let's go to the data we have and my observations from this season so far.

What We've Learned Since Kansas

  • Alex Bowman loves second place
  • Clint Bowyer's temper knows no bounds
  • Jimmie Johnson isn't dead just yet
  • Kyle Larson is officially a lineup option again
  • Tyler Reddick should be a full time Cup driver (IMO)

DFS Lineup Sleepers - Coca-Cola 600

Bubba Wallace

Bubba Wallace has been a guy that I've wanted to play all season but just couldn't afford the heartbreak. That could change this week. Recently on an Instagram post, Wallace came out about some depression he's been battling for a while. If I know anything it's that once you put that out there for the world, you're ready for help and to release those demons. Since the post Wallace seems to be in good spirits and finished the All-Star race in 5th place. When you clean out your space there's more room for good things to happen. I'll be giving him a shot this weekend.

William Byron

Billy Byron has very little historical data at Charlotte. In May of 2018, Byron crashed, which got him a finish in 21st place. It's been a whole year since his first race at this track and you'd be lying if you said he hasn't improved his driving skills. The dude literally is a machine racer (video game connoisseur) and started his career in a virtual racing mod. With all the hype around Hendrick recently, I can see him having a solid day for DFS owners.

Clint Bowyer

The temper is unmatched and I absolutely love the energy. I won't sit here and say that throwing punches at a man seated in a car with his helmet on is the right move, but what do I know, I'm just a Fantasy Sports writer (hands up in confusion emoji inserted here). Bowyer definitely made a donkey out of himself at the All-Star race, but his car is running good this season and the best revenge for the backlash he's received would be a Top 5 on Sunday. Clint has that grit and I see him flipping that energy to the steering wheel this Sunday.

DFS Lineup Avoids - Coca-Cola 600

Joey Logano

Logano is a great driver and I feel that I need to state that right off the bat. Although he's a superstar, he hasn't shown superstar numbers at this track in a hot minute. Since May of 2016, Logano hasn't been able to crack the Top 20 and that's concerning especially with him finishing the race running (not Ricky Bobby style running). I don't know if there's something in the water for him in Charlotte, but with him usually having a high price in DFS he's just not worth it for me.

Denny Hamlin

I'm convinced that Denny Hamlin caught whatever bug Kyle Larson had, because he's looked really bad recently. Hamlin has a great resume at Charlotte too, which makes it hard but necessary for me to make the decision to park him this week. In the past three races, Hamlin has been knocked out by an accident (Talladega) and dropped back in the pack after some decent starting positions twice (Dover and Kansas). I am not sure what's happening, but I don't want any part of it until some good mojo comes his way. Come see me in N'awlins Denny. I may or may not know a Voodoo woman named Phyllis.

Ryan Blaney

Oh the high hopes I had for you Ryan Blaney. I was sure at the beginning of the season that Blaney would have a win by now but the racing gods had other plans for him. I think we'll see him bag one by the end of the year still but I don't think it will be this week. Blaney has only posted one Top 10 in his racing career at Charlotte followed by a Top 15. Other than that its been 20s and back for him. His recent racing hasn't given me a reason to step out of the box either. Put your money elsewhere this Sunday.
