5 years agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Ryan Weber will make his first start with the team Thursday, opposing the Toronto Blue Jays. Weber signed a minor-league contract with Boston this offseason and was promoted from Triple-A Pawtucket on May 6. In three relief appearances, spanning eight innings since his call up, the 28-year-old has allowed just a solo home run, struck out seven, and walked only one. In Pawtucket, he made five starts and went 1-1 with a 5.04 ERA and an 18:8 K:BB, prior to his call up. His last major-league start came in 2017 in Toronto, as a member of the Mariners. In Weber's eight career major league starts, he is 0-4 with a 5.40 ERA with a 24:9 K:BB; however, he has allowed seven home runs in just 40 IP. On a day with a heavy slate of early games, Weber's dirt cheap price tag makes it easier to stack the rest of your lineup. The righty has decent strikeout potential, but also struggles with walks and home runs, so a matchup with a boom-or-bust Blue Jays lineup, in a hitter friendly park, could also wind up looking like dirt when all is said and done.--Steve Janik - RotoBaller
