5 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Rick Porcello lasted just 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs, on nine hits, while striking out five, and walking one in Saturday's loss to the Yankees. Porcello gave up a two-run bomb in the fifth inning, giving the Yankees the 5-3 lead, and chasing him from the game. The 30-year-old had done a good job of keeping the Red Sox in it to that point, but the long ball has haunted him all season, allowing a home run in nine of his 12 outings. His 4.76 ERA is supported by a 4.71 FIP and 5.17 xFIP, meaning he is pitching as bad as his counting stats suggest. He'll have to do better on Friday, when he gets the Tampa Bay Rays at home.--Steve Janik - RotoBaller
