Welcome to the Monday, June 3nd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 3nd. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings
- The Reds were no match for Max Scherzer (15K, eight IP, one BB). He is a ferocious, elite performer. Wins (three) have been a struggle, but maybe they'll get better w/offense near full health. Ratios will be there.
- Ryan Yarbrough got blown up (seven ER) while Jake Odorizzi continues to excel (nine K, six IP). 1.96ERA (2.81FIP). So good you just have to laugh. & he gets DET next. YOWZA!
- “W/Paul Goldschmidt gone, the D’backs offense will crumble.” Enter Ketel Marte (14HR, 43RBI) & Eduardo Escobar (15HR, 48RBI); and I own y’all nowhere. DAMMIT!
- BoSox bullpen disarray continues. Marcus Walden & Brandon Workman are primary beneficiaries as Matt Barnes is often used in high leverage situations. Play w/explosives often enough and every once in a while, you’ll lose a few fingers. (one IP, three ER, two BB). Ouch!
- Lucas Giolito is making everyone look like dum-dums. Very hyped prospect but everyone said the Nats broke him; that he didn’t look like the same elite prospect. Wow, what a difference a few months make. Now he’s 8-1 w/2.54ERA; the available space on the caboose is getting smaller and smaller.
- Xander Bogaerts w/second-straight HR game; third in last four. He is tied for third in majors for runs (47), fourth in doubles (18), & also chips in 39RBI, and .305AVG. A couple years back he was a contact hitter w/little power. That’s how it starts. Expect a 91.7avg exit velo to muster more than career-best 23HR.
- Luke Voit, much props (do the kids still say this?) to you for your feats, year to date. I admit I was wrong. I could not imagine the Cardinals giving up on a quality player so I doubted your ability to start the year. You rank top-25 w/16.3% Barrels/batted-ball event. I applaud you, sir.
- I’ve avoided it long enough. In denial, I thought there was no possible way a Marlins player would deserve a mention on the morning ramblings. Well, Garrett Cooper has busted through that wall. In the last two weeks, he has 13R, 4HR, 11RBI, & .314AVG. Of course, he is not down w/the launch-angle logic with his 4.3, which leads to a 55% ground-ball rate. Hmm, chasing 36% of time, making contact on those at 76% rate. Regression there. I tip my hat, but I can’t buy in for the long haul. Ride the wave while it lasts.
- The Padres outfield is a continual mess. Hunter Renfroe is getting his share, hitting homers in bunches w/two (17th bomb) on Sun. Raw Power at its finest. .376 ISO tied for fifth in majors (w/Joey Gallo). BOOM!
- Righties are on the mound? Oooh, grab your Joc. Joc Pederson. .284AVG vs righties; there’s always that guy that tries to one-up you. 18 HR & .395 ISO(tied for third). Sorry, Renfroe. BOOM BOOM!!
- Clint Frazier continues to prove that Austin Meadows is the better prospect. Bottom line: If you $!%$ up in life, OWN IT! Don't run and hide. Charge forward and close the gap!
- Rodney Dangerfield Award: David Fletcher - 32R, 4HR, 22RBI, 4SB, .323AVG; hitting ahead of Mike Trout; 46% owned? 5.9%K?!?! 8.2%BB!
- Mitch Haniger w/.227AVG? Ugh. Thankfully, he has a .265BABIP & already has 44R, 14HR, 31RBI.
- Cheap steals: Myles Straw w/three in one game. Playing time?
- Ramon Laureano HR(seven); he also has 14-game hit streak going, in case you’re curious. Maybe we can move him up in the order instead of keeping him in the bottom third. That would help all fantasy owners. Oh yeah, you’re not worried about us. Rightfully so, you’ve got a job to do.
- Chris Iannetta w/third HR in last seven games. Who cares? Only 1% owned. Maybe you’re right since he’s on the road this whole week.
- Orlando Arcia finally maximizing the lineup w/four homers, 11RBI, .300AVG in last two weeks.
- Chance Sisco, keep an eye on him; he's back up soon w/good park. There are worse options.
- FAAB Collection:
- Jose Suarez (decent first outing - 5.2IP, 4K, 3BB, 3ER)
- These short slate of games help you appreciate baseball more; enjoy them; reach out to chat anytime.
