Welcome to the Saturday, June 8th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 8th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings
- Ouch, like Lucy pulling the football out from Charlie Brown, fantasy owners were duped into excitement by the Devin Smeltzer vs. Detroit start. Smeltzer sent to minors. Rough landing, but pick yourself back up and let's look for the next piece of excitement. Maybe a Jakob Junis vs Tigers next week might suit your fancy.
- Speaking of OUCH! Mitch Haniger has an injury where his mitches ruptured.
- Paul DeJong was lost; he might now be found. Batted .200 w/three HR in May. Already two HR in June w/back-back HR games.
- Did we say streaking? Javier Baez w/three taters in last five games. He doesn’t care about what your analytics (43% chase, 29%Swinging strike, 50%GB, 31%K). All he does is produce.
- Phillies get four HR & nine RBI in four games. YES! This is why they paid for Bryce Harp……oh, never mind. It’s Jay Bruce. Thank you Jay.
- Kevin Cron finally pays off for all the FAAB investors. They likely aren’t around, but he hit his first major league HR. A 16.7%Brls/PA is also very impressive. Jake Lamb returns soon, as will Cron to the minors. *He wasn’t the only Cron-y to have fun. His brother, C.J. Cron, smashed his 14th of the season.
- Jarrod Dyson resets clock w/SB after 14 empty games. Keep him on your roster. He has a schedule full of right-handed pitchers next week.
- Temperature dropping on Austin Riley. three games without a HR. The masses are not happy.
- Let the Braves fandom be satisfied with Freddie Freeman (17th HR), Ronald Acuna (13th HR), and Smooth Mike Soroka (7-1 after eight IP, one ER, six K). HEY! Stop your snickering. Yes, it was the Marlins, but they’ve beat up some elite pitching recently.
- Yonny Chirinos was PERFECT (through five). Eight shutout innings. six K vs. Red Sox. Impressive. Now 7-2 and Rays staff continue to get more dominant. Until we meet again. Chirinos!
- Nelson Cruz on the IL is like a young child wanting to play double-dutch. Excited. Eager. Ready to jump in. Well, he’s in now. HR in his second-straight game.
- C’mon, Brendan Rodgers. 0-for 4?! They’re looking for reasons to leave you on the bench. Don’t give me excuses about “But it was Jacob deGrom.” You need to get Hot! We’ve got a full week in Coors coming up. We need you in the game.
- Michael-angelo Conforto. A masterpiece. Abstract at times. 12HR. Second in three games. There’s some heat building.
- Remember when Daniel Murphy “wasn’t right”? Well, he’s got everything just the way he likes in two HR, 12RBI, .433AVG in his last seven games.
- It is not always Wunderbar! in Domingo German land. (6IP, 4ER, 6K). Seems like things are evening out. There was no way you weren’t starting him against the Indians. He gets the White Sox next. Wunderbar!!
- Zach Plesac w/W vs Yankees (7IP, 2ER, 5K). He’ll be in rotation for awhile with all the injuries. Enjoy.
- Jose Leclerc. You’re giving me a reason to drink. You were doing so well; well enough to earn the closer job back. & right on time, two ER, one IP.
- Gerrit Cole probably doesn’t recognize the team behind him. He Ks 14, with one ER & fails to get the W.
- Chance Sisco w/first HR of the year. A week @ home coming up with four righties. Gettin giddy.
- White Sox vs. Royals…I’ve said too much.
- Andrew Heaney w/42%K rate this year. Foiled by HRs, one of which was Domingo Santana who has three HR in three games (getting hot)
- Fernando Tatis Jr. wanted to make sure everyone knew he was back. In second game, demonstrated power(seventh) & speed(seventh)
- Enjoy the Saturday games.
- Chirinos!
