BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 30% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Prior to missing 12 games after being hit on the hand by a Chance Adams fastball on May 19th, Yandy Diaz had been having the season that Cleveland fans had been dreaming of ever since first putting eyes upon his Dan Uggla-esque biceps. Unfortunately for those Indians fans, Diaz's power breakout has only now come in a Rays uniform, after he was traded in a swap for Jake Bauers over the offseason. In his first 180 plate-appearances for Tampa, Diaz had nine home runs, 26 RBI, and 22 runs. Add in the nine doubles, and Diaz was running a career-high .244 ISO and .500 SLG.
Returning from the IL on June 2nd, Diaz has picked his breakout right back up - with a triple-slash of .333/.421/.424, along with a .363 wOBA and 132 wRC+. And the Rays have not been shy of throwing him back in, as he has started all eight of their games since returning. Still splitting time between the corners, Diaz has stayed near the top of the lineup - leading off three times, batting second three times, and seventh twice.
In his 218 at-bats on the year, Diaz is slashing .270/.353/.487 with 10 HR, 24 RBI, and 31 Runs. Considering the production is backed up by a 12.9% Barrel-rate that is almost triple his previous high, Diaz's 30% ownership rate seems almost criminal. Just as Yandy must buy more shirts every time he breaks out of another one of his extra-mediums, so too should you buy his 2019 breakout at the plate.
