6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies have announced Vince Velasquez will start vs the Braves on Sunday with Cole Irvin likely to be the bulldog behind the opener. Irvin has struggled thus far carrying a 5.48 ERA into the game with his FIP not much better at 4.89. It appears the Phillies hope deploying an opener in front of Irvin will help, but the rookie is allowing 47 percent hard contact with a 40 percent fly ball rate, not a good recipe for success in hitter-friendly Citizens Bank Park. Neither pitcher is a recommended start vs Braves lineup that has the fifth highest team wOBA in the majors.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
