5 years agoThe Montreal Canadiens signed restricted free-agent center Sebastian Aho of the Carolina Hurricanes to a five-year offer sheet with an average annual value of $8.454 million. There is a large signing bonus with a minimal cap hit for the first season, which might help the Hurricanes match the offer. It's hard to believe owner Tom Dundon letting the team's lone All-Star representative move on, especially after Raleigh finally had a winner for the first time in a decade. Aho was a giant piece of that success. Look for Carolina to match the deal rather swiftly. "I'm actually surprised it wasn't more," Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said. The Canes reportedly have said they'd match any offer sheet for Aho. They have seven days to do so.--Daniel Dobish
