5 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Edwin Diaz struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 18th save of the season. Diaz has now thrown back-to-back scoreless innings with four strikeouts since his five-run meltdown in Philadelphia on June 27. Diaz hasn't been as dominant as last seasons 57 saves with a 1.96 ERA supported by a 1.49 SIERA, but he's still been among the top closers in baseball. He is sporting an impressive 18 percent swinging strike rate which has resulted in 54 strikeouts in 33 innings. His 4.78 ERA looks bad, but it should come down as his .397 BABIP against and 22.6 percent home run to fly ball rate come down towards his career averages.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
