5 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Garrett Richards (elbow) could pitch this season after initially being expected to miss all of 2019. Richards, who had Tommy John surgery last July, is making good progress and the team is optimistic he could make his Padres debut later this season. Richards still has several obstacles to overcome before returning to the mound, but if all goes well he could be making starts during the fantasy playoffs. It's likely Richards would initially pitch out of the bullpen, but if he is allowed a starter's workload he's an asset in fantasy. Last season with the Angels he had an ERA of 3.66 backed up by a 3.62 xFIP and struck out 87 batters in 76 1/3 innings. He doesn't need to be stashed, but he's a name that should be on the radar of fantasy owners if it looks like he'll be a starter by September.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
