6 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Hector Velazquez finished just 2 1/3 innings after allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out one and walking two against the Blue Jays on Thursday. It was Velazquez's first start since May 18 but he didn't take advantage of the opportunity. The righty threw just 28 strikes in 50 pitches, so it's clear why he wasn't effective. Splitting the year as a starter and reliever, he's 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA in 43 innings pitched. It's to be seen if Velazquez will get another chance to start, but the Red Sox are struggling to fill their fifth rotation spot. The All-Star break is coming up so we'll have to see which route the Red Sox go, but even if the 30-year-old does get more starts, he'd be far from a viable fantasy option.--Steve Janik - RotoBaller
