Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the Monday, July 8th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 8th. Enjoy them. Daily Musings

• Chance Sisco brings his Boombox w/sixth HR.. 33.3%HR/FB is nice. 31%K rate could use some work.
• Combo meal can’t be any more delicious w/Lourdes Gurriel Jr (16HR/3SB).
• Jason Kipnis with the fountain of youth. 2HR, 9RBI, .291AVG in last 15 days. I’m not that bold.
• Trevor Bauer provides reassurance. 7IP, 1ER, 7K. 3BB, meh.
• Brett Gardner flexes for the third-straight day (15HR, 8SB). ASB coming at a bad time for him. Only 18% owned.
• Charlie Morton reaches 10 wins. 10K in 5.2IP.
• Christian Vazquez w/14th HR. 2.7WAR ranks 3rd among catchers
• Heath Hembree gets BoSox save. Backend is even more muddled.
• Rhys Hoskins 20th tater leads team. Great plate discipline (17.3%BB), but 48.7%fly ball rate?
• Someone pinch me. Jean Segura stole a base(seven) in second consecutive game.
• Aaron Nola gets W. 6.2IP, 1ER, 3BB, 6K. Anyone concerned now?
• Garrett Cooper slowed last week. Eighth HR is nice.
• Anyone think Josh Donaldson would have 18HR at All-Star break?
• Dallas Keuchel w/win. 7.1IP, 2ER, 4K. So boring. I usually like steady, boring players. I’m not in on this guy.
• Brian Dozier will run into one from time to time. 14HR, 47RBI, .233AVG from 2B spot. Productive but my ship won’t sink with Dozier on it.
• Mike Trout vs Yuli Gurriel Challenge just got series. Yuli G has already won the consecutive game HR stretch (2-1-1-1-1) over last five days. Trout hits two HR to tie the HR total at six over those same five days. The battle continues in the second series after the ASB.
• Jose Urquidy roughed up more than the first outing. 2.1IP, 5ER, 4K. He is an Astros pitcher though which gives him automatic clout, evidently.
• Jose Leclerc as opener? Stop the madness.
• Jose Abreu (21HR) & Eloy Jimenez (16HR) give people something to worry about.
• Alex Young with six clean innings, three K. 2-0. Very impressive. Not bought in though.
• This is not the German Marquez that people thought they were getting. 6IP, 4ER, 5K. I just don’t trust any Rockies pitcher.
• Yep, Greg Holland (14SV) still the closer.
• Matt Olson(19HR) will hit 30HR this year. Only 65% owned. .250AVG is fine with me.
• This is why you kept Liam Hendriks (fifth SV)
• Ramon Laureano, like Olson, also had two straight games w/HR. 16HR, 10SB, .265AVG is sexy.
• Omar Narvaez was a great choice at catcher. 14HR, .297AVG. 68% owned.
• Joey Lucchesi minimizes Dodgers damage. 6.1IP, 3ER, 4K.
• Kirby Yates w/30 saves. YAHTZEE!!
• Mass rush to get Ross Stripling has not got the expected results. In three starts, 11IP, 9ER, 14K.
