ANALYSIS: Through all of the chatter that routinely surrounds the New York Mets, it could be easy to overlook the superlative work that Cal State Fullerton alum J.D. Davis has put in at the plate for 2019. With ten home runs and an OPS of .845 in 251 AB, fueled on by a dialed-in line of six XBH (two homers and four doubles) with a .373/.448/.569 slash through 51 AB in the month of July, the defensively pluggable 26-year-old has plenty of momentum steamrolling into August.
His strikeout rate this past month was high at 20.7%, but his walk rate has done more than enough to balance the scales at a 10.3% clip. What's more, his excellent 92 MPH exit velocity paired with a 46.2% hard contact and 12.8% soft contact rate on batted balls to accumulate a .196 ISO through the July heat, and though his line drive rate hit a season-low of 17.9%, his GB/FB ratio also hit a season-low of 1.29. He may not be much for a runner, but with consistent plate appearances, J.D. Davis has a well-rounded bat with power upside that has produced home run volume even in the worst of times this season. With such high-quality contact being applied, he is a sneakily enticing option for the campaign's final months.
