Phillip Ervin (OF, CIN) - Week 19 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 16+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 1% of Yahoo! leagues

ANALYSIS: When the Reds shipped outfielder Yasiel Puig to the Cleveland Indians at the trade deadline, it opened up a spot in the outfield. The team still has Nick Senzel, Jesse Winker and Josh VanMeter expected to reprise regular roles, but keep an eye on Phillip Ervin as well.

For starters, both Winker and VanMeter hit left-handed, and since the Puig trade the right-handed hitting Ervin has started both games against left-handed pitchers - hitting fourth in each contest.

Additionally, the 27-year-old is slashing .337/.402/.554 with two home runs and three steals in 46 games played this season.

As the short-side of a platoon, Ervin probably won't play enough to merit consideration in most fantasy formats. However, it's hard to ignore a guy hitting .337, and if he steps into a semi-regular role he could have sneaky value in deeper leagues and NL-only formats.
