Ezekiel Elliott Remains on Vacation as Cowboys Enter Week 2 of Training Camp
5 years agoElliott has until just August 6th to report if he wants to remain an unrestricted free agent in 2021. It certainly doesn't look like that will happen, as recent reports have suggested this could drag into the regular season. Elliott does have more leverage than any other RB in this league, and Jerry Jones isn't someone to budge, so this could get gross. With that said, it could just as easily go the other way with one constructive conversation and some cash. Elliott remains a top five fantasy running back and that can't change until we see real evidence that he will miss meaningful games. Once he hits the field, you're looking at the most consistent back in football. You can't pass that up for a camp holdout or even a missed game or two to start the year.
If this does drag on, my interest lies in Tony Pollard as the handcuff. RB Coach Gary Brown has already been quoted saying "That whole gadget thing is a misnomer. He's going to be a three-down running back in the NFL". Pollard was a do-it-all back at Memphis, catching 39 passes for 458 yards and three TD's. Even with an healthy Elliott, I see potential for Pollard in this offense. Cowboys OC Kellen Moore is a huge fan of pre-snap movement and Pollard is the kind of guy that's extremely dangerous, as he can take the end-around hand off or split out wide and run an effective route.
