Reese McGuire Continues Case for Catcher Platoon in Toronto
5 years agoPreviously known as a glove-first prospect, rookie catcher Reese McGuire has now started four of Toronto's last six games over the more well-known (and disappointing) Danny Jansen. Starting in his second game in a row, McGuire made the most of his opportunity against the Yankees on Thursday, going 4-4 with a double, home run, and three runs scored. Since being called up on July 27 McGuire is all about 280, as he has a .280 AVG, .280 OPS, and .280 ISO, along with two home runs and a .560 SLG. It remains to be seen how the catching duties will be split up going forward but for right now it seems that McGuire is quickly becoming favored over the incumbent Jansen.
