Drew Smyly Struggles In Boston
5 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Drew Smyly only lasted 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision at Fenway Park. Smyly only allowed two runs, but gave up five hits, three walks and left a bases-loaded jam the bullpen was able to bail him out of. Smyly made two excellent starts to begin his Phillies tenure, but since has allowed 16 earned runs in 19 1/3 innings as his ERA rose to 6.99 on the season. The left-hander has a very high 11.7 percent walk rate and allows 47.3 percent hard contact which makes it hard to predict these struggles will go away. With the Phillies struggling with pitcher depth they'll turn to Smyly again on Tuesday vs Pittsburgh, fantasy owners, however, can look elsewhere.
