BALLER MOVE: Add in 14-Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 29% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: If you're reading this profile, chances are you passed on every highly-priced tight end on draft day, opting for a cheap option in a late round to just stream the position all season long or at least until finding someone valuable to pick up for free. I don't blame you. Out of the Trifecta of Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Zach Ertz, there were not much out there to truly bank on back in the preseason. It was too much of a risk to take. But if you're in one of the 71 percent of leagues that have Vernon Davis still available on the waiver wire, consider yourself a lucky GM!
The season started as badly as possible for Washington's tight end Jordan Reed. Actually, the season has yet to start for him, as Reed has been out with a concussion for two weeks now. Enter Vernon Davis. The 35-year-old veteran has taken on TE1 duties in Washington and he hasn't disappointed his owners and streamers so far. Davis was targeted seven times in Week 1 and caught four passes for 59 yards. He scored a massive touchdown running and literally bouncing and jumping over rivals down the sideline. His Week 2 outcome wasn't as great, perhaps due to a limited amount of opportunities, although he was as efficient as in the season opener. He finished Week 2 with 5.9 PPR points thanks to catching three passes out of four targets for 29 yards.
Had I to guess, I'd say Jordan Reed will eventually make it back to the field. I don't think it is the best decision as he has been concussed a fair amount of times already, but he's Washington's leading tight end and they will play him like that in due time. Until that point (and after he gets another concussion, which I wouldn't rule out at all happening shortly after he comes back based on his injury history), Davis will be one of the best options on offense for a bare-bones attack in Washington.
Same as other veterans around the league, this type of player offers safe options to quarterbacks on most of the plays. You can't expect Davis to average 20 fantasy points per week, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities to see him stay on a seven-point floor with upside to reach 15 points if all things align for him. So far this season he's the TE6 among all qualified players at the position, and a great option to stream or stash in deep leagues considering Reed's health concerns.
