5 years agoHouston Astros starter Justin Verlander hurled six shutout innings as the Astros took down the Rangers 4-1. Verlander (19-6) struck out eight hitters while allowing only four hits to earn his fourth win over his last five starts. The veteran Cy Young candidate has somehow outdone a fantastic first half with an otherworldly second half. Since the All-Star break, Verlander is 9-2 with a 1.79 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 130 strikeouts over his last 85 1/3 innings. The right-hander now has limited opponents to a .169 batting average on the season and is posting a 12.01 K/9 rate. Verlander is in line for at least one more start this year in his quest for 20 victories.--Joey C - RotoBaller
