BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 14% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Well...
While it's too early for the Daniel Jones naysayers to eat crow -- which is good since I was one of them -- his performance in Week 3 was good. Like, historically good. Rookies making their first NFL start don't put up the numbers that Jones did while also leading double-digit comebacks.
Jones was 22-for-36 for 336 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed four times for 28 yards and a pair of touchdowns. (Not to pick on Eli Manning too much, but Manning was in his fourth season when he got his second career rushing score, and he never had two in a game. He also never led a comeback as big as what Jones led.)
With Saquon Barkley (ankle) set to miss as many as eight weeks and backup running back Wayne Gallman not inspiring confidence in anyone, the Giants suddenly find themselves as a passing team, and Jones' mobility can be useful down in the red zone since they won't have a rusher who they can fully trust.
This could also all be an illusion. Jones was an inaccurate passer in college and was almost universally considered a major reach when the Giants drafted him. Analysts had valid concerns and one week of production doesn't negate those valid concerns.
But in a deeper league, why not give him a chance? Quarterbacks can be tough to find in those leagues, and Jones has plenty of upside. You'd rather have him than the Mason Rudolphs of the world, right?
