ANALYSIS: Rookie Diontae Johnson started his first career game in Week 3 and in turn hauled in his first career touchdown. He was targeted six times, bringing in half of them for 52 yards, including the 39-yard score in the fourth quarter.
The Toledo product saw a season-high 42 snaps against the 49ers, which put him third on the team behind James Washington and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Johnson has lined up a handful of times in the slot, but is mainly an outside presence, which gives him the big-play upside many raved about in the preseason.
While the offense has struggled consistently moving the ball and putting points on the board, Johnson garnering starts means that the coaching staff understands his ability supersedes his inexperience. With a plus matchup against the Bengals in Week 4, Johnson is still more of a bench stash but based on matchups, he could serve as a solid flex play with a weekly chance to find the end zone.
