ANALYSIS: Playing time can be difficult to come by for a rookie, even for a high draft pick who was as impressive in college as Jarrett Culver was. However, with the Minnesota Timberwolves as banged up as to see Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, and Jeff Teague all miss time of late, the window of opportunity has opened up for Culver, who has taken excellent advantage.
In the two games that he has played so far in the new year, Culver has averaged 10.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steal per contest in 65 total minutes, after posting 21 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a robust 38 minutes played on December 30th. His chances this season have come few and far between, but he has shown out nicely when his number is called, as he also produced 10.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.0 steal per game in November when his usage rate jumped to 21.2%. While his three-point shooting has been extremely rough thus far (23.1%) and it will be hard to count on consistent court time, Jarrett Culver's size and versatility make him a great plug-in option for the Wolves when someone hits the injury report, and his well-rounded play offers a cornucopia of rewards when he is deployed.
