ANALYSIS: Keep in mind that Renfrow sustained an injury in his last game so there is the risk that he misses time. It's a rib-related injury, so it could come down to play under pain, but that only Renfrow knows.
We all know Tyrell Williams as Oakland’s no. 1 wide receiver under Derek Carr. Are we sure that remains true? I’m on the opposing side, so give me Hunter Renfrow over Tyrell Williams going forward. The rookie has outperformed Williams in the past five games, including this past weekend’s one against the Jets. It was a little bit ugly, and Derek Carr ended hitting the bench, but Hunter Renfrow (even leaving early due to an injury) still was able to beat Williams again.
In the Raiders’ last five games, Renfrow has amassed 281 receiving yards on 22 receptions and 27 targets while scoring two touchdowns. Williams has 264 yards on 15 receptions and 25 targets, and just one score. That might look very similar, but Renfrow has stepped up his game slowly but surely all season long while Williams has dropped massively from what he did to start the year. Renfrow is averaging more targets each passing week while Williams is losing ground, and the latter’s 18 yards in two receptions this past weekend were a season-low.
Even with Williams (and TE Darell Waller) in the lineup, Renfrow has turned into one of the go-to weapons for Carr and the quarterback’s last game was truly an atrocious outlier in what has been a great season for him in 2019. Assuming Carr rebounds (more than possible) against Kansas City, Renfrow should benefit from it. Kansas ranks 23rd against opposing QBs so Carr should rack up passing yardage easily. Renfrow himself had 19-, 17-, and 12-point games in three of his last four matches, so pencil his average around 12 fantasy points. That’s more than enough to add him and play him as your WR3/Flex this weekend and even keep him in your roster going forward.
