Devlin Hodges (QB, PIT) - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 2QB Leagues

OWNED IN: 3% of Leagues

ANALYSISSunday’s game against Arizona marked Devlin Hodges third start in a row since Week 11, and so far so good for the rookie quarterback. So good, in fact, that Hodges has become the only undrafted quarterback to win his first three starts. There’s that. The problem with Hodges, at least for fantasy owners, is that he’s been more of a real-life winner than a fantasy one. Even with that, though, he’s still providing enough value as to consider him in deeper or 2QB leagues.

Hodges has finished his last three games with fantasy tallies of 10, 14.8, and 15 points. That is not going to win any 12-team league, sure, but 15 points per game in his last two don’t make him that bad of an option in leagues with teams forced to play more than one player at the position. Hodges is a game manager and his upside is limited because he tries to keep errors at bay. He’s thrown 51 total passes in his last three completing 25 of them. Hodges is on a steady rise, though, as he’s gone from five to 14 and 16 completions in his last game while logging completion rates of 45.5% to 66.7% to 84.2% in his last one. Hodges has thrown three touchdowns (one each game) and only one interception in that span.

The Steelers will face Buffalo this week and while the Bills have a great defense, Hodges is not one to try and beat secondaries all on his own. He’ll again try to throw safe passes on low volume and he’ll probably end with his average 15 points again. Hodges also showed some extra upside on the ground rushing for 34 yards on five carries this past Sunday. His value might not be at its maximum this week but he has a good matchup in Week 16 against the Jets where he could be a good secondary option for the QB position in your 2QB or deeper league lineup.
