Mets Sign Matt Adams to Minor League Contract
5 years agoThe Mets signed first baseman Matt Adams to a minor league contract on Friday, also extending him an invite to 2020 spring training. In 2019, Adams hit .226 with 20 home runs and 56 RBI with the Nationals. If he makes the MLB roster, Adams would serve as first base insurance for the Mets and as a potential left-handed bat off the bench with Peter Alonso and Dominic Smith on the team. Of course, things could change in terms of Adams' value if the Mets deal Smith before or during the 2020 season. At best, Adams will be a lefty power bat for those in NL-only leagues, but he'll only be a part-time player against right-handed pitchers and will likely need Alonso to miss time with injury to really see extended playing time.
